Türkiye’nin 81 ilinden getirilen 963 farklı yöresel lezzetin yer aldığı dev sofra, tam 247 metre 68 santimetre uzunluğundaydı.
Anadolu’nun farklı şehirlerinden gelen yöresel ürünlerin aynı sofrada buluşması, Türkiye’nin gastronomi zenginliğinin kapsamını ortaya koyarken, festival kapsamında Afyonkarahisar’a gelen uluslararası şeflere de Türk mutfağının bölgesel çeşitliliğini tanıma fırsatı sundu.

One of the most striking achievements of the festival was bringing together 963 different flavors brought from 81 provinces of Turkey on the 247-meter-68-centimeter-long “Anatolia Table.” With this giant organization, Afyonkarahisar inscribed its name in the Guinness Book of Records for the third time.
Thus, Afyonkarahisar—which is one of the important centers of the international gastronomy network with its identity as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy—achieved a remarkable success in the 8th year of Gastro Afyon with a Guinness World Record.
GASTRO AFYON OPENS ITS DOORS FOR THE 8TH TIME: 963 FLAVORS FROM 81 PROVINCES MET AT THE SAME TABLE
The 8th International Gastro Afyon Tourism and Flavor Festival, held this year in Afyonkarahisar under the theme “Anatolia: The Memory of Taste,” opened its doors to visitors with a ceremony.
The opening ceremony of the festival was held with the participation of Governor Dr. Naci Aktaş and his wife Nagihan Aktaş, members of parliament Hasan Arslan, Mehmet Taytak, and Hakan Şeref Olgun, Mayor Burcu Köksal, General Manager of Development Agencies at the Ministry of Industry and Technology Ahmet Şimşek, provincial protocol, famous chefs, and citizens.
Within the scope of the festival, 963 different flavors brought from 81 provinces of Turkey were brought together at the “Anatolia Table,” which is 247 meters and 68 centimeters long.
While this organization earned Afyonkarahisar the success of entering the Guinness Book of Records for the third time, it also made Turkey’s regional culinary wealth visible at a single table.
963 FLAVORS MET AT A SINGLE TABLE
The “Anatolia Table,” one of Gastro Afyon’s most striking organizations, laid bare Turkey’s gastronomic diversity.
The giant table, featuring 963 different regional flavors brought from 81 provinces of Turkey, was exactly 247 meters and 68 centimeters long.
The meeting of regional products from different cities of Anatolia at the same table revealed the scope of Turkey's gastronomic wealth, while also offering international chefs visiting Afyonkarahisar within the scope of the festival the opportunity to get to know the regional diversity of Turkish cuisine.
By having its name inscribed in the Guinness World Records for the third time with the “Anatolia Table” organization, Afyonkarahisar further strengthened the international visibility of Gastro Afyon.
THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF CULINARY CULTURE IN THE HERITAGE CORRIDOR
The Gastronomy Heritage Corridor established in the festival area also received intense interest from visitors.
Governor Dr. Naci Aktaş and his wife Nagihan Aktaş visited the Gastronomy Heritage Corridor and made inspections.
In the corridor carrying traces of gastronomy heritage extending from the Phrygians to the Seljuks, and from the Mevlevi cuisine to the present day, the regional flavors, traditional recipes, and production culture of Afyonkarahisar cuisine were introduced.
Afyonkarahisar's gastronomy memory was kept alive in the festival area with recipes, production culture, and culinary tradition handed down from generation to generation for centuries.
“THE BEST WAY TO KNOW A CITY IS TO SIT AT ITS TABLE”
Speaking at the opening of the festival, Afyonkarahisar Governor Dr. Naci Aktaş drew attention to the importance of gastronomy in introducing the cultural identity of cities.
Stating, “Sometimes you look at its history, walk its streets, see its works, listen to its people. And sometimes, the best way to get to know that city is to sit at its table,” Aktaş expressed his thoughts.
Stating that Afyonkarahisar has a rich gastronomy memory, Aktaş said that local products are not only a part of the palate; they are also part of the soil, production, labor, and cultural accumulation.
Governor Aktaş expressed that behind Afyonkarahisar cuisine, which has been shaped over centuries, lies the labor of the farmer, the effort of the breeder, the skill of the masters, and a great experience passed down from generation to generation by families.
GASTRONOMY IS NOT A FIELD THAT BEGINS AND ENDS AT THE TABLE
Emphasizing that gastronomy should not be seen merely as a field that starts in the kitchen and ends at the table, Governor Aktaş stated that gastronomy forms a great value chain extending from the field to the market, from the producer to the tradesman, and from the kitchen to tourism.
Stating that the survival of a regional product means that the farmer who produces that product continues to produce, Aktaş said that carrying traditional dishes into the future is possible only by transferring the knowledge and experience of masters who know this culture to new generations.
EMPHASIS ON “ANATOLIANS” (ANADOLUDAKİLER)
In his speech, Governor Dr. Naci Aktaş also touched upon the “Anatolians” (Anadoludakiler) Project implemented under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdoğan.
Stating that the project, which is based on rediscovering the “abundance, accumulation, and skill” of Anatolia, treats local products not just as a legacy left from the past, but as values that source production, employment, entrepreneurship, and development.
The Anatolians Market established in the festival area became one of the important examples of this understanding. Regional products, hand-crafted products, and traditional production examples from different regions of Anatolia were brought together with visitors.
WE WANT TO DEVELOP OUR KITCHEN AND TURN IT INTO ECONOMIC VALUE
Stating that Afyonkarahisar’s inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of gastronomy is an important opportunity and responsibility, Governor Aktaş expressed that they want to protect, develop, promote, and transform the city's culinary culture into economic value.
Drawing attention to the need to promote Afyonkarahisar’s history, thermal resources, natural beauties, and gastronomy together, Aktaş noted that they aim for visitors coming to the city to see Afyonkarahisar as an important destination to be discovered.
THE FIRST DAY OF THE FESTIVAL WAS CROWNED WITH A GALA PROGRAM
The first day of the 8th International Gastro Afyon Tourism and Flavor Festival continued with a magnificent Gala Program.
Governor Dr. Naci Aktaş and his wife Nagihan Aktaş, members of parliament İbrahim Yurdunuseven, Hasan Arslan, and Mehmet Taytak, Mayor Burcu Köksal, provincial protocol, famous chefs, and guests came together at the gala program.
Beginning with the performance of the Ankara Turkish World Music and Dance Ensemble, the night featured the screening of the “Anatolians” promotional film.
At the finale of the night, the “Timeless Journey of Felt” fashion show prepared by the Umay Women’s Cooperative was held.
In the fashion show where Afyonkarahisar's ancient felt tradition was reinterpreted with women's labor, traditional felt art met with modern designs.
ANATOLIA’S TASTE AND HERITAGE MET IN AFYON
Held under the theme “Anatolia: The Memory of Taste,” Gastro Afyon brought together visitors not only with gastronomy, but also with Anatolia’s production culture, traditional handicrafts, and cultural heritage transferred from generation to generation.
While Anatolia's abundance, accumulation, and skill were brought together in Afyonkarahisar through events held within the scope of the festival, the city's claim in gastronomy tourism was demonstrated once again.
AFYON CUISINE HOSTED WORLD CHEFS
Afyonkarahisar’s rich culinary culture—ranging from sucuk to clotted cream (kaymak), Turkish delight (lokum) to poppy seeds, local meat products to traditional pastries—was presented to the interest of chefs and participants from different countries around the world throughout the festival.
Afyonkarahisar Professional Chefs Association President Chef Hamza Kalkan assumed an important role throughout the festival in promoting the city's traditional culinary culture and bringing local products together with the professional gastronomy world.
With Kalkan's contributions, the traditional values, product diversity, and local culinary culture of Afyonkarahisar cuisine met with national and international gastronomy representatives.
Gastronomy Talks held on the closing day of the festival became one of the important headings of this meeting.
During the program attended by Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal, famous Chef Danilo Zanna, Chef Hamza Kalkan, and prominent figures of the gastronomy world made evaluations on Afyonkarahisar cuisine, local products, and the future of gastronomy tourism.
Local dishes prepared by Ayşe Ekiz, known through the MasterChef competition, also received great acclaim from the participants.
INTERNATIONAL GASTRONOMY BRIDGE FROM CEYDA ÖZDEMİRLİ
One of the striking names in strengthening the international identity of Gastro Afyon was International Gastronomy and Suppliers Association (UGASDER) President Chef Ceyda Özdemirli.
Playing an active role in the organization processes of chefs and jury members invited to the festival from different countries, Özdemirli contributed to the gathering of international gastronomy professionals in Afyonkarahisar.
Özdemirli’s communication established with chefs from different countries throughout the festival, her contributions to the participation of international guests in programs, and the coordination of gastronomy meetings stood out as one of the prominent elements in strengthening the international dimension of Gastro Afyon.
This contribution also drew attention in terms of establishing a gastronomic communication bridge between Turkish cuisine and world cuisines.
The chefs coming from different countries getting to know Anatolian products, sharing experiences with Turkish chefs, and closely discovering the regional cuisine of Afyonkarahisar strengthened the international aspect of the festival.
Due to being born in Bursa, UGASDER President Chef Ceyda Özdemirli, who took place at table number 16 representing Bursa at Gastro Afyon, also contributed to the promotion of Bursa’s food culture.
DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, DIFFERENT CUISINES, THE SAME TABLE
At Gastro Afyon, chefs coming from different geographies of the world found the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional flavors of Anatolian cuisine.
International chefs and jury members took an active part in gastronomy competitions, evaluation processes, chef meetings, and various events.
Thus, Afyonkarahisar cuisine met on the same platform with the experiences of professionals coming from different gastronomy cultures.
On one side, Afyonkarahisar’s deep-rooted culinary heritage; on the other side, hundreds of local products brought from 81 provinces of Turkey and the gastronomy experiences of chefs coming from different countries of the world met under the same festival roof.
This picture revealed that Gastro Afyon is not just a flavor festival, but has transformed into an international platform where Anatolian cuisine meets world gastronomy.
963 FLAVORS OF 81 PROVINCES AT THE “ANATOLIA TABLE”
The “Anatolia Table,” one of the festival’s most important organizations extending to the Guinness World Records, brought together the gastronomic wealth of 81 provinces at a single table.
963 different flavors brought from 81 provinces of Turkey were brought together at the giant table, which is exactly 247 meters and 68 centimeters long.
With this organization, Afyonkarahisar succeeded in inscribing its name in the Guinness Book of Records for the third time.
While the meeting of regional products coming from different cities of Anatolia at the same table laid bare Turkey's gastronomic wealth, it also offered international guests the opportunity to recognize the regional diversity of Turkish cuisine.
CHEF HAMZA KALKAN: THE LOCAL POWER OF AFYON CUISINE
On the local gastronomy leg of Gastro Afyon, Afyonkarahisar Professional Chefs Association President Chef Hamza Kalkan became one of the prominent names.
The protection of Afyonkarahisar’s traditional culinary culture, greater recognition of local products in the gastronomy world, and the development of the city's gastronomy tourism potential were among the main agendas of the festival.
The meeting of Chef Kalkan’s experience in local cuisine with the different gastronomy accumulations of international chefs on the same platform constituted one of the striking aspects of Gastro Afyon.
Thanks to this meeting, Afyonkarahisar's local dishes were introduced not only to festival visitors, but also to professional chefs coming from different countries of the world.
TURKISH CUISINE ON THE SAME PLATFORM WITH WORLD CHEFS
As the 8th Gastro Afyon left behind, what remained from the festival was not only images of dishes, competitions, and events, but also the traces of an international gastronomy meeting.
The meeting of 963 flavors coming from 81 provinces of Turkey at the same table and its being crowned with a Guinness World Record became one of the most important headings of the festival.
In addition, the meeting of Anatolian cuisine on the same platform with chefs coming from different countries of the world strengthened the international aspect of the festival.
In this process, the contribution made by UGASDER President Chef Ceyda Özdemirli to international chef and jury organizations, and the work carried out by Afyonkarahisar Professional Chefs Association President Chef Hamza Kalkan towards introducing the city's local gastronomy values, stood out as two important elements connecting the international and local dimensions of the festival.
On one side Chef Hamza Kalkan, representing the deep-rooted culinary culture of Afyonkarahisar, on the other side Chef Ceyda Özdemirli, bringing gastronomy chefs from different countries together at the Anatolian table...
The meeting of two different gastronomy experiences under the same festival roof created a striking example in terms of carrying local values to the international gastronomy world.
“GASTRONOMY BRINGS COUNTRIES AND PEOPLE TOGETHER AT THE SAME TABLE”
In his post-festival evaluation, Chef Ceyda Özdemirli emphasized that gastronomy consists of more than just food culture, and at the same time forms a strong communication area between countries and people.
Drawing attention to the fact that chefs coming from different countries getting to know Anatolian cuisine in Afyonkarahisar is an important gain, Özdemirli thanked the institutions, chefs, and jury members who contributed to the international dimension of the festival.
This approach also revealed the core message of Gastro Afyon:
When different countries, different cuisines, and different cultures meet at the same table, gastronomy turns into a bridge of culture and friendship.
“ANATOLIA: THE MEMORY OF TASTE” FROM AFYONKARAHİSAR TO THE WORLD
Hosting thousands of visitors for three days, the 8th International Gastro Afyon Tourism and Flavor Festival was concluded with gastronomy competitions, workshops, chef meetings, Gastronomy Talks, cultural events, a gala program, and a Guinness World Record.
One of the most important messages of the festival was that the richness possessed by Anatolian cuisine is not just a legacy of the past, but can become one of the important gastronomy values of the future through correct promotion, production, tourism, and international collaborations.
Strengthening its place on the international gastronomy map with its identity as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, Afyonkarahisar carried this success to a different dimension with a Guinness World Record in the 8th year of Gastro Afyon.
Hosted by Afyonkarahisar; this grand gathering—emerging through the local gastronomy accumulation of Chef Hamza Kalkan, the international organization experience of Chef Ceyda Özdemirli, the contributions of producers and chefs coming from all over Turkey, and the participation of chefs arriving from different countries of the world—brought Anatolia's flavors together with world cuisines at the same table.
At Gastro Afyon, this time not only dishes competed.
Cultures met, chefs shared their experiences, local products opened up to the world, and Anatolian cuisine gained a strong place in the international gastronomy world.
The message given by Afyonkarahisar for three days was extremely clear:
“THE MEMORY OF TASTE IS ANATOLIA; AND ANATOLIA’S TABLE IS OPEN TO THE WORLD.”
